all resolutions to write more this year have thoroughly fallen by the wayside.
but what if? what if the first step toward rebuilding a habit is just to hit post for once?
there’s no one watching anymore. there probably won’t be — if i hit the point of routinely writing things that belong in a more discursive space, i can always join one of those.
but here’s to trying to post some little glimmer every day.
tonight: there’s a book club meeting to discuss Witchcraft for Wayward Girls and i have about 45 minutes left yet to listen on the audiobook.
last night, i went to see The Sting playing in a classic movies series. i grew up around the soundtrack — my dad had a copy of the sheet music, so “The Entertainer” happened to be the first little melody that I learned to pick out on a piano. when the adertising came up, i realized i still hadn’t ever seen the film itself. the gentleman doing the intro pointed out that it’s set in the 1930s but uses Scott Joplin’s music, more popular earlier. Marvin Hamlisch apparently pointed this out to George Roy Hill, who didn’t particularly think more than three or four people seeing the movie would ever know the difference. …what a weird 50 years since that thought, i suppose.
another from today’s random brain-soup: a recent sleep study didn’t accuse me of sleep apnea, but it confirmed my watch’s data saying that i have some low-key sleep breathing issues… hypopnea, and my blood oxygen saturation gets lower than it ought. so… new round of trying to exercise FOR MY BRAIN because i have a feeling that’s what’s most affected, and getting in better cardiovascular shape is one of the ways i can probably help it short of getting a CPAP machine. so. competing impulse: go exercise.
and hitting post now: a little tiny start at eroding the mental habit of thinking of it as a big deal.
